Now Accepting Registration for the 11-12 School Year

School starts on September 6, 2011 this year. It would be helpful to register your student before August 30, 2011 so we can make sure all registration paperwork is complete. New Student Orientation is Thursday, September 1, 2011 and the office will be closed Friday, September 2, 2011.

You may look at the district's School Finder website to check your address in order to find your neighborhood school.  If you do not live within the Challenger neighborhood boundaries and would like to have your child's name on a waitlist, please complete an Enrollment Options application.  An application does not guarantee enrollment - it only places your child's name on the waitlist.  As of June 30th, Challenger does have a number of openings so please contact the registrar, Tamra Winchell, at 858-586-7001 to check on the status of the openings.

Waitlists - Some names from the waitlists have been released.  Challenger is in the process of contacting parents.  If you have any questions, please contact the Enrollment Options Office at (619) 725-5672 or call the school you requested to check on your status. 
 
New Students Living Within Challenger Boundaries - Please look at the information listed below for a list of documents you will need to bring with you to register your child for the coming school year.
 
5th Grade Students at Hickman, Sandburg and Mason - In most cases if your child attends one of these schools and resides within Challenger's neighborhood boundaries, articulation to Challenger is automatic.  If you have any concerns about registration for your fifth grader, you may call Tamra Winchell at 858-586-7001, ext. 2219 or Susan Ludwick at 858-586-7001, ext. 2212.
 





Registration Procedures
 
You may drop in during regular office hours of 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Please allow yourself about an hour to complete the registration packet.  Please bring the following with you:
 
1. Proof of birth (birth certificate or baptismal record)
2. Copy of complete immunization record with dates - click for more information immunization requirements 
 
        Please note: A new California state law requires students to have a new booster shot called Tdap to protect
        them from Pertussis (Whooping Cough) which is an epidemic in California.  Students who do not have this new
        shot will not be allowed to start school in September 2011 until it has been updated. 
3. Current report card, transcript or withdrawal grades
4. Copy of any of the following documents to establish residence with in Challenger's neighborhood area:
  • a recent utility bill (SDG&E, land-line phone, water or cable)
  • a rental agreement
  • property tax payment receipts
  • mortgage documents
  • military housing orders
There are additional requirements for a student who is living with a guardian or living at a residence where the parent or guardian is not the owner or renter of the property. Please call Tamra Winchell at 858-586-7001, ext. 2219 to determine what documents you need.
 


Please also bring the following if they apply to your child:
  • IEP for students in the Special Education Program
  • Gifted Test Results (GATE Program)
  • 504 Plan
If you do not have some of the documents listed above, your child's previous school may be able to help you.
 
 
 
 

Transportation Services are in flux.  We anticipate most transportation services will be terminated for Challenger Middle School.  Please contact Enrollment Options for your school options for your neighborhood.
