Robotics Club

There has been a Robotics Club at Challenger for several years. In fact, one of our former employees, Kirk Snyder, still comes back each week to work this dedicated group of students. Club sponsors, Mrs. Evans and Mr. Barkell, take the Robotics Club to all-day competition Botball competition each year. Everyone is welcome to this exciting event!  The team won third overall in the 2010 competition.  Congratulations to all team members!

What is Botball?
The Botball Educational Robotics Program integrates science, technology, engineering, and math with robotics to keep students on the cutting edge of technology! Students are given about seven weeks to design, build and program a team of mobile, autonomous robots as well as document the engineering process online. Participants compete against each other on a 4’ x 8’ playing field in a fast paced, non-destructive regional tournament. The robots are student built and programmed to maneuver on the game board without the need for remote control.

Like many of life’s challenges, the Botball Program presents an open-ended problem with a variety of solutions. The many different scoring methods offer teams challenges at different levels - requiring them to make decisions about strategy, design, and construction. This gives teams experience in evaluating options and working towards a solution. Botball events are held all over the nation. It is has even gone international!
